- Enclosed is the 7.0 Finder "hook" for Virtual User. When installed, the
- hook allows Virtual User to "see" many more things in 7.0 Finder dialogs
- and windows.
-
- The 7.0 Finder does a number of unusual things with its dialogs, which
- prevent Virtual User from seeing items that you would normally expect
- it to see. Items in Finder windows such as user items, static text,
- and edit text can be seen by Virtual User only if the Finder hook is
- installed.
-
- The hook also allows Virtual User to see a file's icon in the Get Info
- window. The biggest advantage the hook gives is access to CDevs
- (previously just blank boxes). Also, Get Info windows suddenly have
- information in them (lots of it. try it.).
-
- To install the 7.0 Finder hook, the 'CODE' resource contained in the
- enclosed package must be added to the 7.0 'Finder' file. To do this:
-
- 1) In the Finder, Open your System 7 'System Folder' and select the
- 'Finder' file.
- 2) Select 'Duplicate' from the 'File' menu.
- 3) Open the 'Mole.code' (from this message) and the 'Finder copy' files
- using the latest ResEdit (v2.1.1 if possible).
- 3) Select the 'Mole.code' 'CODE' resource and select 'Copy' from the
- 'Edit' menu.
- 4) Click on the 'Finder copy' window, and select 'Paste' from the 'Edit'
- menu.
- 5) Select 'Save' and then 'Quit' from the 'File' menu.
- 6) Move the 'Finder' file to the trash (don't empty it yet).
- 7) Rename the 'Finder copy' file to just 'Finder'.
- 8) Select 'Restart' from the 'Special' menu.
- 9) Select 'Empty Trash' from the 'Special' menu.
-
- The 7.0 Finder hook is now installed and in operation.
